1. charts: TradingView Desktop

Download it from tradingview.com/desktop, install it and log in. On Windows it installs as an MSIX package (the Microsoft Store app format), which matters in step 3.

2. brain: Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic’s AI assistant that works in your terminal. It can run commands, edit files and use tools on your computer. Depending on its permission mode it either asks first or just acts, so if you’d rather approve each step yourself, press Shift+Tab to switch modes.

mac · terminal
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
windows · powershell
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex

Open a new terminal window, check it with claude --version, then type claude to start and log in. While you’re here, install Node.js (LTS) and Git.

Side note: the Claude desktop app can also run local MCP tools (Settings → Extensions). We use Claude Code because the bridge’s own docs are written for it.

3. connect them: the TradingView MCP Bridge

The TradingView MCP Bridge is a free, open-source (MIT) project by tradesdontlie on GitHub. “MCP” is the standard way to plug tools into Claude. The bridge talks only to the TradingView Desktop app on your own computer, through Chrome DevTools Protocol on debug port 9222. It can read your chart and indicators, change symbols and timeframes, write and compile Pine Script, and read the Strategy Tester. It is unofficial: not made by or affiliated with TradingView, and it does not place trades.

option a: paste the one prompt (the reel way)

Start Claude Code in your home folder (cd ~ then claude) and paste:

paste into claude code
Install the TradingView MCP Bridge for me. Clone https://github.com/tradesdontlie/tradingview-mcp.git into my home folder and run npm install. Register it for all my projects with `claude mcp add --scope user tradingview -- node <full path to the repo>/src/server.js`. Then launch TradingView Desktop with debug port 9222 using the repo's launch script for my operating system, and check the connection with `node src/cli/index.js status`. Explain each command in simple words before you run it.

Read what Claude is about to run before it runs. Bas, that’s the habit.

option b: do it by hand

mac · terminal
git clone https://github.com/tradesdontlie/tradingview-mcp.git ~/tradingview-mcp
cd ~/tradingview-mcp
npm install
claude mcp add --scope user tradingview -- node "$HOME/tradingview-mcp/src/server.js"
./scripts/launch_tv_debug_mac.sh
windows · powershell
git clone https://github.com/tradesdontlie/tradingview-mcp.git "$HOME\tradingview-mcp"
cd "$HOME\tradingview-mcp"
npm install
claude mcp add --scope user tradingview -- node "$HOME\tradingview-mcp\src\server.js"
.\scripts\launch_tv_debug.bat

Prefer a config file? Put this in .mcp.json in the folder you start Claude Code from (use your real path):

.mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tradingview": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/full/path/to/tradingview-mcp/src/server.js"]
    }
  }
}

Heads-up: the launch scripts close TradingView first and reopen it with the debug port, so save your layout first. Windows “Access is denied”? Once the bridge is connected, ask Claude: “Use tv_launch to start TradingView in debug mode.” Don’t change permissions on the WindowsApps folder.

4. ask Claude

Six prompts to start with. Always ask “why?” and check what Claude changed on your chart, because it can be confidently wrong.

prompt 1
What's on my chart? Tell me the symbol, the timeframe and every indicator I have loaded.
prompt 2
Summarise my indicators in plain English. Where do they agree, and where do they disagree?
prompt 3
Write a Pine Script strategy for this chart: go long when the 20 EMA crosses above the 50 EMA, exit when it crosses back below, and use a fixed stop loss. Add it to my chart.
prompt 4
Compile it. If there are errors, read them, fix the code and compile again until it's clean.
prompt 5
Read the Strategy Tester results: net profit, max drawdown, profit factor and number of trades. Explain them simply, and tell me what could make these numbers misleading.
prompt 6
Rewrite this strategy as an MQL5 Expert Advisor so I can test it in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester.

5. backtest longer: MT5 Strategy Tester

MetaTrader 5 is a free download, and the Strategy Tester is built in (Ctrl+R on Windows). It tests Expert Advisors written in MQL5. Pine Script doesn’t run in MT5, which is why prompt 6 exists. Open the file Claude writes in MetaEditor and compile it there.

6. execute: MT5, demo first

In MT5 go to File → Open an Account, find your broker and pick a demo account (virtual money). Before you ever go live, check the broker is regulated where you live: the FCA Firm Checker in the UK; in India the RBI keeps an Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms, and residents may only deal in forex with authorised entities for permitted purposes under FEMA; elsewhere, your national regulator. Stay on demo until you follow your own rules every single time, even on bad days.

7. journal: TradeZella

Paid: Essential $35/month ($26/month billed yearly), Pro $59, Ultra $99 (Oct 2026; check tradezella.com/pricing). It can auto-sync an MT5 account. If you do, use your investor (read-only) password, never your main trading password. Log why you took each trade, a screenshot, and whether you followed your plan. That last column is the one that matters.

8. community: Telegram, the right way

Use Telegram for learning: groups where people share charts, ask questions and review mistakes. Skip paid “VIP signal” groups. The UK regulator’s FCA Warning List names unauthorised firms, including Telegram signal channels such as “Trading Academy Signals” (22 April 2026) and “@Forex Signals” (16 December 2025). Red flags: someone contacts you out of the blue, pushes you to act fast, guarantees returns, or an “admin” DMs you first.

safety box / read this twice

  • Debug port only on your own computer. Never expose port 9222 to your network or the internet. Close TradingView and reopen it normally when you’re done.
  • Unofficial tool. Not affiliated with TradingView or Anthropic. It uses undocumented TradingView internals that can break after any update. TradingView’s Terms of Use restrict automated data collection, so following them is on you. Never redistribute the data.
  • Keep keys and accounts private. Never paste API keys, passwords or broker logins into a chat, a screenshot or a Telegram group.
  • AI is not prediction. Claude reads and explains. It doesn’t know what price does next.
  • A backtest is not the future. Past results don’t guarantee anything.
  • Demo first. Real money only after weeks of following your own rules.
  • Not financial advice. This is education. Leveraged forex and CFDs can lose you money fast.
